Drama Curriculum
Expressive Arts Curriculum at Primary
At SBS, Drama, Music and Art are taught from FS1 through Year 6, providing children with rich opportunities to develop imagination, confidence, and skills that prepare them for future success. Throughout the year, students enhance their oracy, public speaking and performance abilities while deepening their understanding of class texts and thematic learning. Our cross-circular, theme-based approach allows students to apply their creative skills across all subjects, bringing learning to life in meaningful and engaging ways.
Drama encourages students to express themselves, collaborate with peers and develop confidence through performance, devising, and role play. They explore storytelling, character, and emotion, gaining skills that enhance both academic and personal growth.

Music at SBS is delivered through an integrated, practical, and child-led approach. Students explore, create, and perform music while developing key musical skills. Lessons combine listening and appraising with activities such as playing melodies, accompaniments, composing, and performing, allowing musical understanding to grow progressively and creatively.

Art provides children with the chance to experiment, invent, and create their own works using a variety of materials. Students develop skills in drawing, painting, sculpting, and other art, craft and design techniques. Through stimulating activities, pupils learn to appreciate colour, texture, tone, line, shape, form, and space, gaining a deep understanding of how these elements are used across all areas of visual art.
Our Drama, Music, and Art leaders play a key role in bringing school events to life. From Productions to Jingle Mingle and International Day, they lead, perform, and create. Developing leadership, teamwork, and creativity while making a real impact on the school community.
