Welcome to Student Careers

At Safa British School, we are dedicated to providing all students with the support and guidance they need to plan for their future with confidence. Through access to a skilled careers team, professional career advisers, and a well-structured programme of education, information, advice, and guidance spanning Years 7 to 13, we aim to prepare students with the knowledge, resilience and skills required for success. Our approach to careers education is holistic, with teachers actively involved in encouraging and guiding students at every stage.

We place a strong emphasis on raising aspirations and empowering students to make well-informed decisions about their future pathways. By offering diverse opportunities, we help students build their confidence and develop the key competencies needed for their continued growth. We are also committed to removing barriers that may limit students’ ambitions.

Our careers programme is designed to support students in understanding their strengths, researching potential opportunities, making thoughtful decisions, and navigating their next steps with confidence. We are proud of our partnerships with both local and global employers, who contribute to our programme by offering valuable experiences such as work placements, virtual workshops, industry and university visits, career talks, interview workshops, careers fairs, and work-related learning activities.

The school leadership team is fully committed to the career’s program, demonstrating this through policy and implementing  the Gatsby Benchmark and following CIEAG,

Careers Information, Education, Advice and Guidance (CIEAG) rationale Careers information, education, advice and guidance programmes make a major contribution to preparing young people for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of life. Careers education is about planning for all stages of transition within school and beyond. A progressive programme of activities supports students in choosing pathways that suit their interests and abilities and helps to prepare them for an ever-changing workplace to sustain employability throughout their working lives. It also plays a central role in raising achievement through encouraging students to be ambitious.

Safa British School is committed to providing students with a programme of careers education, information, advice, and guidance (CIEAG) for all students in years 7 – 13. The school endeavours to follow statutory guidance to secure independent and impartial
careers guidance for young people in schools.

Our Careers policy is designed to:

  • Support in raising achievement, through increasing aspirations and motivation.
  • Support inclusion, challenge stereotyping, and promote tolerance, equality of opportunity.
  • Encourage participation in continued learning including further education, higher
    education and apprenticeships.
  • Identify and encourage enterprise and employment skills.
  • Contribute to the economic prosperity of individuals and communities.
  • Develop a broad understanding of the world of work and an ability to respond to
    changing opportunities.
  • Develop independent research skills so that students can make choices based on their
aspirations and the information they can access.
  • Develop the skills students need to review achievements, plan future actions, make
decisions, present themselves well and cope with change and transition.

It is recognised that the process of making career decisions is a lengthy one but one that can start early in their secondary education. Students are encouraged to have high aspirations and consider a broad and ambitious scope of careers based on a range of activities that will inspire young people.

One-on-One Career Interviews – Offer personalised guidance sessions with trained career advisors to help students understand their strengths, interests, and career options. Support is inclusive and provided to all students.

Use online career guidance platforms as well as utilizing other sources offline/online to provide students with up-to-date information on careers, education pathways, and job market trends. We have a well constructed year plan via our Unifrog programme. The Unifrog platform encourages students to maintain digital portfolios that showcase their skills, experiences, and achievements. The career team actively monitor the platform and relays critical information to relevant post holder, in order to maximise the resources.

Communication Channels: Keep parents informed about the careers, upcoming events, and resources through newsletters and school websites. Parents are given access to Unifrog at the beginning of each academic year. They are also encouraged to attend one to one meetings where appropriate.

ACHIEVES, Enterprise week, workshops, Safa strands worth mentioning again, include other initiatives we do?

At Safa British School, we ensure that all Year 10 students have access to meaningful work experience placements, providing valuable insights into the working world. Additionally, our Year 12 students are offered similar opportunities, particularly those who have joined us from other schools and may not have previously participated in work experience. We encourage students to take an active role in securing placements and engaging fully with our careers programme.

We organise regular industry visits and career fairs to broaden students’ understanding of various sectors and career pathways. These events offer firsthand exposure to potential career options and help students make informed decisions about their futures.

Professionals from a wide range of industries are invited to speak with our students, sharing valuable insights about their career journeys and the key skills needed for success in their fields. These sessions inspire and motivate students as they consider their future aspirations.
