It is so difficult to name a best moment in teaching. Nothing can beat the feeling in a classroom when a group of students fall in love with the piece of literature they are studying. That magic feeling when your love and passion is transferred to a group of young people. I often feel like this when teaching Sylvia Plath’s poetry and Shakespeare’s Othello!

About Me

Like all English teachers, away from teaching, I love reading, and have recently taken to reading travel fiction. I also have a passion for food and travel and loved having the opportunity to explore Asia when I lived and worked in Hong Kong. After the birth of my daughter, I decided to train in Applied Behaviour Analysis and gained certification in the practice of ABA. I also learned Makaton sign language and became an IB exam marker.

My Experience

Whilst studying my A Levels, I fell in love with English Literature, and a fantastic teacher inspired me to pursue a degree in English Studies. After University, I took two years out to travel but then quickly returned home to complete a PGCE in English and Drama. I taught for four years at a wonderful school in England where I became Second in Department. It was then, in 2009, when I made the move to Dubai, and over the next ten years worked as Head of English in two large Outstanding schools in Dubai and Hong Kong. I fell in love with international teaching and forging strong relationships with both students and staff. However, in 2018 I decided to take some time out of the classroom to start a family. After discovering that my daughter had special needs, I decided to return to teaching in 2023 as part of Safa British School’s English Inclusion team; determined to make a difference in the lives of children (like my daughter) who might otherwise struggle.
