I absolutely love teaching my subject: creative writing, poetry, conspiracy theories, myths and legends, non-fiction; the list is exhaustive. However, I also really love the pastoral side of teaching. When you have a tutor class and you form a close bond with the students and then you are able to engage in all sorts of activities outside of the normal curriculum – it is exciting, challenging and at times hilarious. Doing a tug-of-war and laughing until you cry, being drenched by super soakers and water bombs on the last day of term, seeing the students’ faces when they receive their final marks on results day – these are the moments that stand out and remind me of how much I love my job.

About Me

Eventually in 2014, I landed in Dubai. I have spent the last 10 years teaching at International Schools here, building on experiences and opportunities that have arisen. I now have 16 years of English teaching experience; I have taught TEFL, Primary, KS3, IGCSE, A-Level and IB; I have also previously been a Head of House and Head of Year 8, 9 and 10; and in January 2024 I completed my Masters in Educational Leadership and Management.

My Experience

After completing my A-Levels, I travelled from my quintessential, suburban British boarding school, to become an assistant teacher at an International School in Malaysia. At the ripe old age of 18, I knew I was destined to teach abroad and that was where the adventures began. After returning to the UK and completing my English degree at the University of Gloucestershire, I immediately embarked on a TEFL course in Vietnam and spent several years teaching English across Asia and Europe. I made the decision to once again return to the UK to become a fully qualified secondary school teacher. My time in the UK was short lived as I quickly returned to teaching internationally, only this time I moved to Marbella, in Spain. Here I taught my first IGCSE and IB Cohorts, solidifying my knowledge and experience for secondary school teaching. This then took me to Hong Kong for 2 years where again, international school teaching taught me so much: the specifications, texts, students and community not only added to my experience as a teacher, but also my growth as a person.
