Seeing a student feel proud and happy about a piece of work they have created will always be my favourite moments in teaching.
I am from a small seaside village called Knott End which is in the North-West of England. I have always been creative and loved art since being a little girl. My mum would collect recyclable materials like yoghurt pots and egg boxes in a cupboard which I would call my ‘junk box.’ I would spend hours, days, even weeks just creating and making things from this junk box. Still to this day I enjoy turning a plastic bottle into a Papier Mache animal.
When I was teaching in the UK, I worked in a specialist school where most students had been excluded from several schools. I really enjoyed building positive relationships and trust with students who had not yet found a reason to love education and giving these students a reason to fall in love with learning again.
Before I became a teacher, I worked on several TV shows dressing sets and making props and graphics. One of my highlights was working with “Bald Eagle” off Stranger Things. When I studied Graphic Design at university, I specialised in creating digital illustrations and illustrated my own children’s book.
I have always wanted to travel and teach and so before moving to Dubai I taught Art and Design Technology in Qatar. Whilst working in Qatar, I was promoted to Head of Year 7 and found my love for teaching internationally. I enjoy travelling and since moving abroad I have visited lots of different countries and intend to visit lots more! Travelling and experiencing new cultures really inspires and excites me.
